"Working with Matterbeam has been a game-changer for Broadlume. Their platform's agility and ease of integration allowed us to automate complex data workflows seamlessly, saving us significant engineering time and costs. And then, once some of our data was in Matterbeam, we quickly discovered new use cases on our own, implemented them quickly, and saved both time and money."

The Challenge

Broadlume is the leading digital tools and technology company in the U.S. flooring industry. It provides local flooring retailers with an all-in-one marketing and management platform to grow revenue, streamline operations, and maximize profits.

Re-extracting data, for the fourth time
Overloaded with one-off data requests
Stuck building manual pipelines

Broadlume's customers use MeasureSquare, a third-party platform that accurately determines flooring dimensions, calculates total board feet, and provides job summaries. Streaming data into MeasureSquare allows for quick job quotes, faster onboarding, and an enhanced customer experience.

MeasureSquare requires product catalogs to be uploaded via an API or web interface for each storefront across Broadlume’s customers. This manual process is time-consuming and complex. Updates necessitate re-uploading all storefront data individually, with periodic resyncs to fix potential issues.

Before Matterbeam, Broadlume was set to implement a manual, engineering-intensive process for each MeasureSquare user. This involved trimming unnecessary fields, dividing files into sub-companies, and re-uploading them. Each dataset change required repeating this laborious task, consuming valuable engineering time that could be used for more strategic initiatives.

The Solution

Broadlume's flagship product, BMS, faced a complex ERP data migration to their next-generation solution. Earlier this year, they deployed Matterbeam for this task. With their BMS data in the Matterbeam Data Agility Platform, a lead data engineer then realized the manual process of integrating MeasureSquare could be fully automated using Matterbeam, completing the implementation within hours.

For Broadlume, this demonstrated the power of Matterbeam as the datasets already being sent to the platform could now easily be used for new uses cases — weeks later they simply replayed data already in Matterbeam to new destinations, for new uses. This discoverability continues today as the Broadlume data and product teams constantly discover new ways to use and deploy the data.

The Broadlume team created a Transform in Matterbeam to join data from three sources required by MeasureSquare: Product Catalog, Product Codes, and Product Types. Matterbeam also built an Emitter to the MeasureSquare API in just weeks, completing the solution.

The Outcome

Broadlume had already successfully deployed Matterbeam as their platform to manage and accelerate their ERP migration. During that journey the team experienced the flexibility and fluidity of their Matterbeam Data Agility Platform, quickly realizing they could reuse the data already in Matterbeam for their MeasureSquare synchronization needs.

Matterbeam saved Broadlume weeks of engineering time that would have been required to script a manual data pipeline that extracts, transforms, and segments the data from Broadlume's BMS to MeasureSquare. And the system now saves approximately $6,000 in monthly engineering costs that would have been required to manually manage and execute the data pipeline.

Broadlume continues to discover new use cases on their own which they can quickly implement in the Matterbeam platform. This is possible through Matterbeam's immutability framework that can replay data from any past moment in time, without having to trigger a complete reload of data from Broadlume's BMS.
